The A1 Drag Racing Crew

Gary Busch – Driver

Gary for many years drove a Cortina with a Ford Big Block.

Partner Debra spectacularly wrote off that much loved machine in March 2002 (see the vision- put a link in here), but by December he was back racing an Altered which he still campaigns when not driving the Outlaw Funny Car.

His long list of winning events includes the South Australian Tri Series run In Whyalla, Mildura and the Coonawarra.

He has 6 Divisional Championships to his credit.

Modified 2003/04, 2004/05 & 2005/06 & Outlaw 2006/07, 2007/08 & 2008/09

He is a First Class Toolmaker by trade and works on every aspect of preparing the car.

Greg Brown – Owner & Team Director

Greg was a regular around the country in his Chevy powered cars, starting with the Torana, the beastly DeTomaso Pantera, the Statesman and Camaro Funny Car, but has nowadays largely restrained himself and put Gary in the seat. He is very hands on in his leadership and work on the car. He is the owner and Director of A1 Truck & Car Crash Repairs.

Dave Brown – Crew Chief

Dave has been the Crew Chief for Greg, right from the start, having been enticed away from Speedway. His knowledge and experience with hydraulics and electrics on top of his mechanical skills make him an ideal crew chief. He has recently closed his forklift repair business and is now a Workshop supervisor for one of SA’s leading forklift companies.

Bruce Brassington – Technical Consultant & Start-up Crew

Bruce has a history in Vehicle Inspections and as an ANDRA Official and so provides invaluable support in all aspects of regulation and engineering, in addition to his hands on mechanical work. He nowadays works at being retired.

Debra Matthews – Back-up & Staging

Debra is Gary’s partner in life and his second set of eyes and ears on the track when going into stage. She also raced the Cortina on many occasions and so is a valuable contributor to the team with a real understanding of racing. She operates her own hairdressing business and can be seen at the track running the shears over the boys.

Anthony Franzl

Anthony is the brakes and sometimes clutch man. His enthusiasm and all round ability are missed when he can’t undertake all the interstate and road trips. He operates his own mobile brake service (Speedy Brakes).

Lawrence Coppola

Lawrence is the engine builder we use and occasional crew member at the National meets. He is one half of LA Motors, a general mechanical repair business & the man behind LA Performance Engines.

Chris Levi – Team Manager

The “Colonel” is the team dogsbody looking after all the administrative matters. Now retired, he has a background in commercial Government enterprises.

Jeff Beacham – Clutch Consultant

Jeff is our well known WA based identity we call upon to assist with the clutch.
